VISIGRAPP is a unique forum for universities, research groups and research projects to present their research and scientific results, be it by presenting a paper, hosting a tutorial or instructional course or demonstrating its research products in demo sessions, by contributing towards panels and discussions in the event's field of interest or by presenting their project, be it by setting up an exhibition booth, by being profiled in the event's web presence or printed materials or by suggesting keynote speakers or specific thematic sessions.

Special conditions are also available for Research Projects which wish to hold meetings at INSTICC events.

GCG - Group for Computer Graphics, Image and Vision

The GCG - Group for Computer Graphics, Image and Vision, created in 2007, has interests on the research and development of themes related to image processing, computer vision and computer graphics. Our current main research areas are: visualization of tensor and scalar fields; human action recognition from videos; modeling, simulation and visualization of carbon nanotubes; and Virtual and augmented reality.

Intelligent Systems Laboratory

The IS Lab at WSU does research in the areas of Computer Vision, Geometric Modeling, and Medical Image Analysis.

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU)

The story of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) can be traced back to the founding of the Government Trade School in 1937. Now PolyU has 31,864 graduates per year (2014/2015) with 1,199 academic staff and over HK$1,832.2 million of research funding (2014/2015). PolyU takes pride in offering a wide range of quality programmes which nurture graduates who are critical thinkers, effective communicators, innovative problem solvers, lifelong learners and ethical leaders. PolyU motto is "To learn and to apply, for the benefit of mankind", and the university has a long-established research culture which supports academics in conducting research that has impact and practical value.

Escuela Politécnica Nacional (EPN)

The Escuela Politécnica Nacional (EPN) is a public university in Ecuador. EPN was founded on 1869 as the first Ecuadorian center of polytechnic teaching and scientific research. The main campus encompasses ten teaching and research faculties, in addition to four technical and specialized institutes. EPN motto is “E scientia hominis salus”, meaning science for the benefit of humanity. EPN is known for research in both pure science and applied science. An emblematic example is the PhD Program in Informatics, the first of its class in Ecuador, whose current main research areas are:  software engineering, information systems, human-computer interaction, intelligent systems, image processing, natural language processing, voice processing, and information security.


The research activities of the Augmented and Virtual Reality Laboratory (AVR Lab) are mainly focused on the use of Virtual and Augmented Reality technologies in medicine and surgery, cultural heritage and education. The AVR Lab is involved in the research activities of DREAM, a laboratory of multidisciplinary research applied to medicine located at the Hospital of Lecce and focused on improving the efficiency and quality of healthcare services. The virtual and augmented reality technologies can provide a valid support to the surgeon in preoperative planning and intraoperative surgical procedures.

The AVR Lab is also engaged in the design and development of advanced human-machine interfaces for interacting with virtual objects and models and improving the performances of users in a real environment.

The AVR Lab is member of the European Association for Virtual and Augmented Reality (EuroVR) and annually organizes the International Conference on Augmented and Virtual Reality (SALENTO AVR).

STARR: Decision Support and Self-Management System for Stroke Survivors

A major collaborative research program has now been launched to develop new ways to support self-management by stroke survivors in their homes. Called STARR, (decision support and self-management system for stroke survivors) the new program will target the known risk factors for recurrent stroke, as it is estimated that 90% of recurrent strokes are preventable if the risk factors are managed appropriately.

STARR will develop a modular, affordable, and easy-to-use system, which will inform stroke survivors of the relationship between their daily activities (for example, their medication intake, physical and cognitive exercises, diet, and social contacts) and their risk of having a further stroke.

STARR is run in partnership by a European consortium of researchers and will receive 4.5 million euros from the EU Horizon 2020 research program. The consortium includes stroke survivors and their representatives, commercial healthcare companies, hospitals, as well as sensing technology, privacy and human-machine interaction research groups from seven countries.


The objectives of the project are:


• Find out what patients, careers and clinicians need to support self-management after stroke

• Build a system of sensors and devices to support that self-management

• Make sure that the system is easy to use, unobtrusive and respects the users privacy

• Evaluate how useful the system is and how well it fits the needs of the users

• Boost the use of networks of smart objects for the self-management of health
